Will Barcelona join the Premier League after all?
After
reading the news on Goal.com about Catalunya breaking away from Spain and the
possibility of Barcelona, Espanyol
and Girona joining Premier League,
I couldn’t help but wonder about how the
league would be shaped, IF, Barcelona join the best league in the world.
The Premier League will definitely become
more competitive and tough but it might and most surely will affect the
transfer market, big time. The Premier League is where most of the superstars
of football would love to play but Barcelona is a team that no player can say
no too unless you’re Franhesco Totti or Ryan Giggs. The possibility of many world
class players joining Barcelona and playing in the Premier League is just
endless and that’s just great. The sight of Lionel Messi playing against top
Premier Leagues’ week in and week out is just awesome.
The three Spanish
sides have an option of choosing either the Premier League or Serie A or Ligue
1 but there is no denying the fact that out of the three, the Premier League is
the most inviting and exciting option. Considering that Barcelona are a team
that love and never shy away from real competition, which they surely will get
from the premier league teams, there is no reason why the Catalan giants
shouldn’t join the elite league in the world.
With
Barcelona in the mix, fighting for the Premier League will become all more
difficult and exciting and Barcelona too will find out, it isn’t easy to win
back-to-back league titles.
Money, will
of course be a driving factor for the push I believe, for football has become
synonymous with money, ever so in the recent times. Think of all crazy transfer
fees the top clubs have been spending for the past few years. The flow of money
will become almost unlimited and the teams will run around crazy for TV deals
and sponsorships and the value will blow through the roof.
There is a lot
more to talk about when you consider about Barcelona joining the Premier
League, topics like, with Barcelona out of the competition, what will happen to
La Liga? Or what’ll happen to the youth academy where a lot of Spanish talents
are being groomed? Or what’ll happen to Barcelona and their reputation if they
can’t win the Premier League title for three years in a row? But those are the
topics of discussion when the split really happens and when Barcelona do join
the Premier League but until then, to every footballing and Barcelona fan out
there, I’d just like to say that the Premier League will welcome you with open
arms.
