Draxler for Sanchez is not good business
A swap deal for Alexis Sanchez
and Julian Draxler is expected to take place in the coming winter transfer
window. This sounded quite ridiculous to me, the first time I heard it. Why
would both clubs even want to go through with such a deal? It’s not a win-win
transaction. Moreover it’s quite the opposite.
PSG who have a well formed attack
in the form of Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe along with the presence of DiMaria and
Lucas Moura in their squad, I’m failing to see just where Sanchez will fit in.
The left flank is owned by Neymar and he won’t give it up. If Sanchez is to
replace Cavani as the target man, PSG might as well forget having Cavani in
their squad next season. If Mabappe is the person to make way for Sanchez,
what’s the point of buying him for 135 million, next season? Also, Sanchez is
not going to happy with either a bench role or playing second fiddle. Things would
just get messed up.
Now, coming to Arsenal, What on
earth are they thinking? The same problem, which PSG would face by signing
Sanchez, will be faced by the Gunners, the only difference being that it’ll be
in the midfield.
Already having players like Xhaka,
Ramsey, Elneny and Ozil, which position would Draxler fit in? Arsenal are now
playing in a 3-4-2-1 formation, which I believe is how they’ll continue in the
future and if that’s the case, Draxler is definitely not the ideal replacement
for Sanchez that Arsenal have been searching for the entire summer transfer
window. He doesn’t score much like Sanchez. A total of 33 appearance in all
competitions for PSG and only 11 goals? Hardly the replacement for Sanchez, if
you ask me. Even for Schalke 04, for whom he played a total of 170 games,
Draxler has scored only 30 goals. Also, with the incoming of Draxler, players
like Walcott, Iwobi and Giroud who only play most of their games as substitutes,
will find game time reduced even more and Arsenal will eventually end up losing
more players.
Acquiring the services of Draxler
will make sense only if he’s going to replace Ozil. If Wenger doesn’t sell Ozil
and Draxler is going to be a part of either his front 3 or midfield 2, Wenger
can surely say goodbye to a couple of his experienced players.
