How have Kante and Pogba defined a midfielder?
Paul Pogba is the costliest
midfielder in the world. N’Golo Kante has won the Premier League twice with two
different teams in his two Premier League seasons. Both players have been
influential for their teams and have proved their worth time and time again.
One scores goals with thunderous
long shots while the other runs around the pitch like an engine and tackles
opponents. There is no denying the fact that these two players have definitely
changed the way managers, pundits and fans look at midfielders. So, with the
Premier League game being played with ever increasing intensity how are these
two players defining a midfielder.
There is no doubt that every team
would want to have players like Kante and Pogba in their squad. No wonder that
France is a strong favourite to win the World Cup. The energy that these two
players bring to the field is just outstanding. Both players can play well but
above all, they are team players and change the game with their dedication and
intensity.
It has really become rare to find
players like these two now-a-days. Though Kante is not given as much hype as Pogba,
there can be no arguing the fact that Kante has won a lot more praise from
pundits when compared to his fellow countryman.
Now, let’s have a look at how
these two fare when compared with the legendary midfield masters like Lampard,
Gerrard, Pirlo, Beckham, Xavi and Scholes
When we have a look at these great
players, they were specific players. They had they own individual strengths and
kept at it. Scholes was the best tackler. Xavi, Beckham and Pirlo were great
passers and free kick takers while Lampard and Gerrard were great box-to-box
players who are well known for their long range strikes. Comparing Kante and
Pogba with these great individuals is too early but when there is no doubt that
these two are future legends I don’t see the harm in comparison. So, the
difference is, that both Kante and Pogba seem to be more complete. They can
tackle, pass great, score long shots, tackle well and Pogba scores from free
kicks.
This is the advantage that they
hold and given their young age, they will only get better. So, a complete
package is what these two players are and that is what everyone will expect
from a midfielder henceforth. They have truly set the benchmark and raised the bar
high.
