What'll be the impact of Ibrahimovic's return to Manchester United?
The news is quite extraordinary.
Nothing could be small when it concerns the big Swede.
A recent report had surfaced that,
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to return to full training at the Manchester United
training facility at the end of this month. This is quite sensational news but
controversial as well. Last time when Ibrahimovic joined the Red Devils on a one
year deal, Anthony Martial who joined United the previous year for a fee of 36
million, not only lost his jersey number but his starting position as well.
Now, the scenario is quite
different at Old Trafford. Another big man in the name of Romelu Lukaku wears
the No.9 shirt and his career at Manchester United had started with a bang. He
has been scoring goals left right and centre since the start of the season.
This is where things gets quite interesting. When the time comes for Zlatan
Ibrahimovic to play a game for United, what will Mourinho do? After spending 75
million for Lukaku, will it be a wise move to bench the Belgian? Ibrahimovic is
36 years old, a good 12 years older than Lukaku which is a big advantage for
the latter but when it comes to ego, there can be no one tougher than Zlatan
Ibrahimovic and there is no way Ibra will agree to play second fiddle but
neither will Lukaku? Though Ibrahimovic is old but doesn’t seem to be past his
prime. He had still banged 28 goals for United in all competition in his half season
for United but Lukaku is also a goal machine and has proved it time and time
again.
What will Mourinho do when the
inevitable happens? Change his formation and play with two strikers? Play one
of them as a striker and the other as a wide man? Both plans will fail. Things
will turn out to be quite interesting once Zlatan steps inside Old Trafford.
The Premier league just can’t wait for that Zlatan
Ibrahimovic to return.
